New Ofsted stats shows more foster carers leaving compared to new joiners

Recent figures published by Ofsted show that significantly more foster carers have chosen to leave the role this year compared to the number of new joiners. 

The annual Fostering in England statistics highlight the huge pressures currently facing foster care and the urgent need for new foster carers. Numbers are continuing to decline against a backdrop of record numbers of children in need of fostering families.

The Fostering Network takes over operation of Fosterline service

The UK’s leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network, has taken over the operation of Fosterline – a helpline which offers advice to existing and prospective foster carers in England.

As of 1 October 2023 The Fostering Network will run the service, which is commissioned by the Department for Education. The charity was awarded the two-year contract in July, taking over from current operators Foster Talk, who have run Fosterline for the past 10 years.

New framework for missing children and young people cases launches today

A pilot framework explaining how services should handle suspected missing children and young people cases has launched today. For the past two years, The Fostering Network has been a part of a national task and finish group, led by the National Police Chief’s Council, working to develop a new approach to reporting children who are thought to have gone missing from care.

Understanding and applying for mortgages is difficult, and for foster carers this can be more difficult due to your self-employed status and issues surrounding income evidence.

New research to ease foster carer retention and recruitment crisis underway

The UK’s leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network, have announced plans to carry out vital research into the retention and recruitment of foster carers in England to achieve a diverse and stable foster care workforce.  

The research, supported by the KPMG Foundation and conducted by the Centre for Evidence and Implementation is currently underway.
