The Fostering Network takes over operation of Fosterline service

The UK’s leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network, has taken over the operation of Fosterline – a helpline which offers advice to existing and prospective foster carers in England.

As of 1 October 2023 The Fostering Network will run the service, which is commissioned by the Department for Education. The charity was awarded the two-year contract in July, taking over from current operators Foster Talk, who have run Fosterline for the past 10 years.

Fosterline England is a free and confidential service, offering advice and information to people thinking about becoming a foster carer and existing foster carers. They can approach Fosterline with any query, such as paying tax as a foster carer or how to approach fostering challenges that have arisen in their home.

This will support the Government’s Stable Homes Built on Love strategy, announced earlier this year, aiming to improve children’s social care. Fosterline is also a core component of the Government’s commitment to supporting foster carer recruitment and retention, ensuring foster carers always have the support they need. 

Jacqueline Cassidy, director for Practice at The Fostering Network, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support current and prospective foster carers with the Fosterline service. There’s currently a shortage of 7,200 fostering families in the UK so there’s a huge need to retain our existing foster carers while ensuring new carers receive the right support from day one.

‘Fosterline will help with this, ensuring there’s always someone on the end of the phone to listen and help with any queries they may have.’ 

The Fostering Network will operate Fosterline services using the same website address and contact details currently in place: fosterline.info and 0800 040 7675.
