Acting for the Promotion of Fostering at European Level (APFEL) is a network association working together and exchanging information relating to foster care between countries in Europe. The network utilises the diversity of approaches to foster care through international exchanges and collaboration, through experience, expertise, research and best practice to improve the lives of children in foster care.
APFEL hold annual conferences across Europe and the eighth conference will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland hosted in partnership with The Fostering Network.
The conference, entitled Foster Care Transforming Lives will take place on Wednesday 20 November 2019 which marks the International Day of the Child.
The conference will focus on three key aims:
- How does the foster care system support children through childhood?
- How does the foster care system prepare young people for adulthood?
- How does foster care support relationships with birth families?
Read our blogs which provide a taster of what we’ll be exploring in the sessions on supporting children and young people during and leaving the care system and models of care.
"This conference provided me with knowledge of European methodologies that helped me to confirm the validity of programs developed in my own Social Service".
