This year, our #TickTheBox campaign will run during care leavers week from 28 October-3 November 2024.

Our UK-wide #TickTheBox campaign encourages people with care experience to ‘tick the box’ on their UCAS application to say they have spent time in care, so they can get the support they may need, to help them enter and thrive at college or university.

Our free #TickTheBox webinar takes place on Wednesday 23 October, 11 am-12.30pm. It is open to people with care experience, foster carers, social workers and anyone who wants to know more about the support available at university and higher education for people with care experience.

The online event will consist of a 10–15-minute presentation from each panellist, on a range of topics. These include the application process, the support on offer from organisations working with care experienced young people and universities themselves, support for foster carers, university best practice and much more. It will finish with a15-minute Q&A session to ask any questions you may have.

Panellists include:

  • Nicola Turner, Senior Fair Access Adviser, Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)

  • Sian Edwards, Programme Manager, National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL)

  • Rebecca Jones, Senior Advice and Support Officer for Higher and Further Education (Become)

  • Vanessa Conman, Access and Outreach Manager, Foster their future programme, (University of York)

You can sign up to the #TickTheBox webinar held via Zoom here.

If you have any questions about the webinar or want to submit questions for the Q&A in advance, please email me at Isobel.Mintz@fostering.net
