This one day training course explores the idea of the ‘positive male role model’ and aims to promote ways in which men can be more effective carers. This course is for men only.
This course provides male carers with a perspective on their role in the care of looked after children
Aims and objectives:
- Discuss how gender influences foster carer work.
- Highlight the unique position male foster carers hold, and how they support children to gain positive attachments and healthy relationships with men.
- Examine the importance of the safer care policy, focusing on the role of men working with children and young people who have experienced trauma.
- Reflect on the emotions that fostering can arouse.
- Explore some of the challenges male foster carers can face and why it is important to confront sexism in practice.
