Men Who Foster

This course provides male carers with a perspective on their role in the care of looked after children

Aims and objectives:

  • Discuss how gender influences foster carer work.
  • Highlight the unique position male foster carers hold, and how they support children to gain positive attachments and healthy relationships with men.
  • Examine the importance of the safer care policy, focusing on the role of men working with children and young people who have experienced trauma.
  • Reflect on the emotions that fostering can arouse.
  • Explore some of the challenges male foster carers can face and why it is important to confront sexism in practice.
